What makes it special
Mushroom is one of Jumunjin's favorite terrain dive sites, named after a large natural rock structure that broadens at the top like a mushroom cap. With comfortable depths ranging from 10 to 18 meters, it is approachable for beginner to intermediate divers who want a relaxed reef exploration.
The rock face is covered with sea squirts and vibrant marine vegetation. In the shadowed overhangs beneath the cap, large greenlings, rockfish, and groupers gather in abundance. The distinctive silhouette of the rock offers fantastic wide-angle photo opportunities against the deep blue waters of the East Sea.
Dive guide
- Monitor your air consumption and depth profile as you navigate around the base of the rock.
- Maintain steady neutral buoyancy to avoid damaging fragile sea squirts and benthic marine life.
- Be prepared for potential thermoclines depending on the season and select adequate thermal protection.
- Deploy a surface marker buoy (SMB) upon ascending and remain alert for boat traffic during pickup.
